R. Kelly was once one of the most powerful forces in R&B music, a prolific songwriter, producer, and singer who could change a career with one collaboration.
For close to two decades, the Chicago crooner was the R. in R&B. However, things have changed in the last five years. The “Ignition (Remix)” singer is now persona non grata in many circles.
In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, R&B legend Charlie Wilson says he is done with Kelly, the man who helped revive his career in 2005.
Amid Kelly’s accusations of sexual misconduct, Wilson opened a concert in Detroit for him earlier this year.
Many people were surprised because Wilson had tried his best to avoid mentioning Kelly at award shows when he talked about the people who brought him to the spotlight. He is now explaining what convinced him to do Kelly one last big favor.
“So I said, ‘Take this, and then that’s it,’” Wilson shared about his conversation with the “I Believe I Can Fly” artist. “‘Thank you for what you did for me. I’m gonna give you this one, but one is it.’”
Wilson reportedly brushed his palms together to make it clear that he has no intention of working with Kelly again.
“Then we stepped out the way. No more.”
Kelly has denied the allegations brought against him by several young women and recently put out a 19-minute song titled “I Admit.”
