Team Lawrence, no more! In a new interview, the funny and gorgeous creator of Insecure Issa Rae made fans cried by announcing that actor Jay Ellis, who played her on-and-off boyfriend, Lawrence, has left the show for good.
Issa had a good reason to let Jay go, while he will be missed from the HBO hit series, his character was no longer relevant because she wanted to stay true to the story.
The last time viewers saw Lawrence; he was talking to Issa who was daydreaming about what their lives and love affair could have been if she did not cheat on him with Daniel (played byY’lan Noel).
Talking to Vulture, Issa explained: “We want to stay as true to life as possible. They had a great conversation at the end of season two, and it was just about like, hey, she’s moving on Daniel, sometimes we have those conversations. You never see the exes again. And it’s okay! You gotta explore life without Lawrence.”
Showrunner Prentice Penny agreed that exes do not stay friends nor continue to hang out with the same entourage once they split.
Prentice added: “We just said, well, if he’s not around, he’s not around. Let’s deal with the reality of what her life is now. Let’s be faithful to that when you break up, and you have closure.”
Jay is currently living his best life while on vacation in Europe, and he found a witty and hilarious way to insert himself into a season 3 cast photo.
