An all-caps tweet from President Donald Trump geared towards Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has garnered responses from millions of people on social media.

Mr. Trump is also mercilessly mocked for the following reason — multiple old tweets dating from five years ago showed that the New York billionaire was accusing former President Barack Obama of planning military actions against Iran.

Back in November 2011, Trump lashed out against Obama, saying: “In order to get [re-]elected, @BarackObama will start a war with Iran.”

Sunday night, POTUS wrote: “To Iranian President Rouhani: NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE,”

His viral tweet went on to read: “WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!”

An unimpressed Iran Foreign Minister Javad Zarif gave the clap-back of the year, by tweeting: “COLOR US UNIMPRESSED: The world heard even harsher bluster a few months ago. And Iranians have heard them —albeit more civilized ones—for 40 yrs. We’ve been around for millennia & seen fall of empires, incl our own, which lasted more than the life of some countries. BE CAUTIOUS!”

Some Democrats hope Obama will respond to Trump in one of his speeches in a very subtle and classy matter.

In the meantime, Mr. Trump is already walking back some of his threats against Iran. For some commentators, the situation is reminiscent of the way he handled North Korea.
